Scenes from an e-bike tour

It's been a fantastic weekend for The Staylyns! We had a truly great show at Junior's on Friday night, and Saturday, we did a live music tour for Rocket Electrics during a postcard-perfect, sunny February afternoon. Today, we'll put down the guitars and turn our attention to snacking, commercials and football for the Harbaugh Bowl. Johnny grew up a 49ers fan, so he's pretty psyched about this year's Super Bowl!

Note: This is not Johnny. This is Sourdough Sam.
That's a real mascot name.

We've gotten a lot of questions about our music tours from friends and family, so I thought I'd do a blog post about it to explain what we do. So, if you've been wondering what that "tour thing" is that we're always talking about, read on!

As noted in my last post, Rocket Electrics is one of our sponsors for 2013. They are the only all-electric bicycle shop in the entire state of Texas, and they are awesome - both the bikes and Rocket Electrics. Johnny and I discovered Rocket E last year, and we became so enamored of their bikes that we bought a pair for ourselves. That's right, folks - we're not just spokespeople and tour guides, we're actual users!

ANYWAY, Rocket Electrics doesn't just sell electric bikes. They also rent them. You can rent them for your own self-guided tool around the city, or you can sign up for guided tours. One of those guided tours is the Austin Live Music Capital of the World Tour. With this tour, a local musician takes you on a guided ride to some of the city's musical landmarks, and at the end of the tour, you get a personal acoustic concert by the musician.

The Staylyns are very pleased to be one of the local acts who participate in these tours. We love Austin, we love our e-bikes, we love Rocket Electrics, and we love to perform, so getting to take people on tours on our electric bikes and tell them about our city then perform for them is pretty much a perfect afternoon!

So, there ya have it! When we say we're doing a music tour, e-bike tour, etc., that's what we're doing. Yesterday, we got to host three guys who had been in Dallas for a Cisco Systems meeting: Daniel (from Australia), Frank (from The Netherlands) and Dave (from Turkey. Yes, that's right - Dave. He's an American who has lived in Turkey for the last 20 years for his job.). After their meeting in Dallas, they made a road trip down to Austin and decided to do the coolest activity in town. Here are a few scenes from our ride:

Hard to see in a small photo, but there are a bunch of people canoeing,
kayaking, etc. on the lake - in February! Gotta love it.

So, if you're ever in town, or even if you're a local and are looking for something cool to do, come take a tour with us! You can sign up on the Rocket Electric website, and if you want to be sure you get us as tour guides, just let John and Nicole, Rocket E's owners, know you'd like a little Staylyns with your e-bike fun. If we're available, we'd love to take you on a ride!
