Running - what's up with that?

We survived! At least for this weekend.

Epic April has begun, and so far, so good. We had a really great show at Junior's in Round Rock on Friday night, followed by a music e-bike tour on Saturday afternoon, capped off with playing the Cap 10k Sunday morning. Then I took a nap.

The Cap 10 is always a fun event for us. Getting up before dawn is somewhat insane (I will never understand people who do that so they can go RUN - and they're even not being chased or paid!), but there's such positive energy from the runners, and it's fun to see the costumes, though I'll admit there are fewer of those every year. Makes me kinda sad.

We did get a little love from the media this year. We made the photo roll for the Austin American-Statesman:

We had a new location this year that had plusses and minuses. We were just past the half-way mark at the bottom of a hill.

On the upside, we were closer to the runners. It's fun to be close because you can interact with them as they run by - comment on their costumes, say something encouraging, or get a nice thumbs-up and a smile or thank you. This year, we even had a girl run over and put a flower down by one of our monitors!

On the downside, we were on grass, and thanks to some rain earlier in the week, the soil was soft, so it was uneven. Even with a carpet down, the legs for Joe's throne kept sinking into the ground, which was causing his seat to be off-kilter, and Johnny kept finding low spots as he danced around. Made it a little more challenging than playing a stage or just a hard surface.

But we didn't get rained on, as has happened in the past (it was overcast and at times a little misty - thus my uber-straight hair in the photo above); we didn't lose power, as has happened in the past; the temperature was comfortable, as hasn't always happened in the past; and we got to be a part of a great event, benefiting a great institution (all the proceeds this year went to the Dell Children's Medical Center).

So, thank you Austin American-Statesman Capitol 10k for choosing us to be one of your bands again this year!

And now, I'm going to go to bed early.  I need more than a nap after all that.
