The Year in Review - 2016

Well, we did it! We made it through 2016! What a year for losing some of our musical and artistic icons, eh? I told Johnny recently that if 2017 is like 2016, our entire cover catalog will be dead people. Not okay, 2016. Not okay.

Our year was a little less eventful (no one died), but we did have our ups and downs. We landed some gigs at some new lucrative venues, but we also lost some of those gigs.

Those gigs helped make this our most successful year yet financially, but we also found that the heavy load of gigs coupled with our other pursuits outside The Staylyns brought us dangerously close to burning out.

But in the end, the good far outweighed the bad for us. We got a new band van, allowing us to dip our toe into the RV world.

Unlike last year, we had very few gigs cancelled due to inclement weather. We've replaced some long-distance venues with venues in town, which is much easier on us in terms of time and travel. And we released several new singles, which was fun.

Looking ahead to 2017 is even more fun, though. We've got a CD release coming up in January (you're hearing it here first!), which will include the singles we've been releasing individually as well as four new tracks. We've got a radio promotion campaign in the spring, which we're hoping will spread The Staylyns love far and wide. And we've got some great gigs on the calendar already.

So, we're excited to take the lessons we learned from 2016 and make a great 2017. We hope that you are also looking forward to a new year and new possibilities.

Stay tuned to our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages for more info about our upcoming CD, and have a fantastic New Year's Eve! If you happen to be in the Austin area, you can ring in 2017 with us at Culinary Dropout in The Domain, 10pm-1am.

Onward and upward!!

  1. That pretty well sums up the major events in the band. Thank goodness your parents were a little healthier in 2016 and look forward to a very healthy 2017, the Good Lord willing.
