Never be above bribing

The vocal gods have been kind, and I was actually able to pull my weight with all of our gigs this past week. We've got one more gig to go this week then we'll get a little break before rockin' the rock out of Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier for New Year's Eve!

Get your mind out of the gutter. The Pleasure Pier has nothing to do with Galveston's once-famous red light district. It's a midway - basically a small amusement park perched over the wild, wild waters of the Gulf of Mexico. We are seriously excited to be playing the pier on New Year's Eve!

But before I jump ahead to the new year, I'll tell you about our gigs from last week. I'll post tomorrow about our gig from last night. It deserves it's own post.

Our first holiday gig, last Thursday, was a corporate Christmas party. It was at the brand new venue Brazos Hall in downtown Austin. Corporate gigs are nice, because they pay well, and you know there will be a built-in crowd. No playing to an empty room waiting for people to show up! It's particularly nice when the party has an open bar, because you're sure to get some enthusiastic dancing.

Our most enthusiastic dancer for this party, though, was not a drunk but the 4-year-old son of the CEO. Joe told the young lad that he'd give him a drumstick if he danced the whole time, so he nearly killed himself trying to stay in motion the whole time we were playing our first set.

During the break, Joe upped the ante - two drumsticks if young lad danced with a girl. As soon as the second set started, he pulled his sister onto the dance floor and forced her to dance with him. I like your ambition, young lad! Come collect your drumsticks.

Friday night was our monthly show at Junior's in Round Rock. We always enjoy playing at Junior's. It's a great vibe, a comfortable stage and both the staff and crowd is great. But this past Friday was freakin' fantastic - we had one of the best crowds ever!

It's not that it was a big crowd. We've played to bigger crowds there. But the people who were there that night were just so freakin' cool - singing along, filming us, dancing, buying CDs. You just couldn't have asked for a better reception! One of the fans even shot some video with his phone and then took the time to put it together for us (big thanks Tor-Arne!):

At the end of the night, we finished our last song, turned away and started talking to each other, then we realized something was happening behind us. We all three turned around and saw the whole crowd on its feet, clapping and cheering and calling for an encore. Now, we've had people ask us to keep playing before, but this was different. We felt like stars! So...we fired back up and played one more song for them.

Everyone rushed to the front of the stage and danced so hard, some of them basically just jumping up and down, that we actually got concerned that the deck was going to give out! But we made it through the song without any injuries and wrapped up the show for real.

It just goes to show that you never know what to expect!
