Rebranding complete

Those of you who have been along for the ride with us for a while now know that we didn't start out as The Staylyns.

When the band first started, it was just Johnny with his very talented friend Scott on drums. Scott is a lifelong friend of Johnny's and a fantastic drummer. But Scott prefers to work individual gigs on a freelance basis, rather than being a standing member of a particular band. So, Johnny knew from the start that Scott wouldn't be his long-term drummer. Thus, he performed essentially as a solo act - Johnny Austin:

As he built a band around him, he kept the name, intending for it to be the band's name, rather than his own name. But he found that, as with most public endeavors, the public decides who you are. And people generally felt that Johnny Austin was Johnny, so therefore, the band was really Johnny.

That worked okay for a while, but as we developed into a three-piece with all three of us singing leads and writing, it really didn't make sense anymore. In addition, there were other Johnny Austins out there, and we didn't want to compete for our name. So, last year, we changed our name to The Staylyns, which is a name we came up with to represent the band as a whole, not just one person.

Changing names is not a small thing, especially three years in. We had developed some name recognition at that point, and rebranding required some effort. We changed our merchandise, our signage, our logo, but the one thing we couldn't change was our Reverbnation address.

I know, right? It don't make no sense.
Unless we wanted to start a new page and lose the connection we already had with our fans there, we had to keep our presence there as www.reverbnation.com/johnnyaustin. We could change all of our content on that page to reflect our new name, but we couldn't just change the page to www.reverbnation.com/thestaylyns.

Until now!

Reverbnation has made a change that made it possible for us to finally migrate all of our content to an address that reflects our current name. Woohoo!

YEAH! We're all pretty excited!
Our official site now is: www.reverbnation.com/thestaylyns. So now if someone searches for us, they won't find our page and wonder who Johnny Austin is and why he hijacked our page.

The only catch in this wonderful development is that if you had us bookmarked under the old name, that link will no longer work. So, if you had us bookmarked, please visit the new page and re-bookmark us! One of our longtime fans emailed us this week to tell us the page was down, so I wanted to be sure I let everyone know about the new page.

So, with the final switch over in place, our rebranding is complete. Only took a year! Now we just need to fix our logo so people will stop calling us The Stylins, The Starylyns or (our personal favorite) The Stallions. Giddy-up.
